Aruba Villa Rentals By CARIBIQUE®

Pink flamingos on a stunning, white, sandy beach in Aruba, Caribbean.

Aruba is a perfect sun filled vacation island, out of the range of Caribbean hurricanes and with just 20 inches of annual rainfall. With a lengthy history, the approximately 69 square mile island has been attracting visitors since around 2500 BC. Colonisation began with Spanish missionaries who brought Christianity to the Indians of Aruba in the early 1500s, at the same time teaching them the Spanish language. In the 1600s the Dutch acquired control of the island, and then in 1986 Aruba was granted the status of an autonomous member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Among the interesting wildlife you will see on Aruba there are wild donkeys, burrowing owls, and of course the annual egg-laying of various species of Sea Turtles. From March through August, Hawksbill, Green, Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtles make the long trek from open water to the beach, in order to lay their eggs before returning to sea. The hatchlings will then instinctively return to Aruba in about 30 years to repeat the ritual. The nesting of the turtles is serious business in Aruba and it is strictly forbidden to disturb the turtles in any way.

Although the US Dollar is widely accepted, the official currency is the Aruban Florin, if you pay for an item in US Dollars you can expect to receive your change in Florin. Aruban Carnival is a major event with buildup beginning in New Year and culminating on Ash Wednesday, with the presentation of prizes. The only thing to match the excitement of Carnival, is World Cup Football (Soccer)!
